Maximize Your Platinum Card Benefits with the Updated Amex App
American Express has enhanced its app to streamline the experience for its top-tier cardmembers, making it easier than ever to find, enroll in, and monitor your statement credits and benefits. This update is particularly beneficial for those who have struggled to keep track of which credits have been used or which ones require activation.
Currently, this upgraded feature is available for holders of The Platinum Card® and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. This rollout coincides with the refresh of both personal and business cards, which now offer additional statement credits and perks designed to elevate your experience.
In conjunction with this update, American Express has also launched the new Amex Travel app, which assists travelers in discovering destinations, planning trips, and checking wait times at Centurion Lounges before flights. Together, these developments reflect American Express’s commitment to modernizing its digital experience and making premium travel and shopping benefits more accessible.
To access the new features, simply open the American Express app on your iOS or Android device. Navigate to the “Membership” tab, select your Platinum card, and click on “Explore Benefits.” Here, you’ll find a comprehensive list of available statement credits and perks associated with your card.
The app provides clear visibility into how much of each benefit you’ve utilized and how much remains for the current period—whether that’s monthly, quarterly, biannual, or annual. This functionality is particularly useful for ensuring you make the most of your credits before they expire. For example, you might notice that you need to utilize your new up-to-$300 biannual hotel statement credit or that you have a mere $5 left on your enhanced digital entertainment statement credit for the month.
It’s essential to note that enrollment is required for select benefits. If a benefit necessitates activation, the app will indicate “Enrollment Required.” Tapping on this notification will activate the benefit, allowing you to start earning your statement credit or enjoying the associated perk. For instance, you might find that you need to enroll in Marriott Gold status or Leaders Club Sterling status with The Leading Hotels of the World.
Business Platinum cardmembers will find a similar interface, tailored to their needs. This version highlights unique benefits, such as up to $360 in statement credits for Indeed and up to $120 per year for U.S. wireless services—both of which also require enrollment. The app helps business owners track their benefits efficiently, ensuring they don’t overlook valuable opportunities.
As of now, this feature is exclusive to Platinum-branded cards. Co-branded cards, such as those from Delta Air Lines and Hilton, do not currently offer the same benefit tracking capabilities within the app. Consequently, users of these cards will need to maintain their own records or rely on statement postings to keep track of their credits.
For example, while you may have used your up-to-$50 flight statement credit for the quarter on your Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, the app does not provide a spending tracker for this benefit. It remains to be seen whether American Express will expand this feature to other cards in the future, but for the time being, it is a Platinum-exclusive advantage.
In addition to the main app updates, the new Amex Travel app for iOS (with an Android version anticipated soon) serves as a valuable companion for cardmembers. While it does not display benefits or credits, it is designed to help users plan trips, explore new destinations, and check real-time wait times at Centurion Lounge locations.
The revamped American Express app significantly simplifies the process of enrolling in and tracking your Platinum card benefits. By providing insights into your available statement credits, usage, and reset periods, the app ensures you won’t miss out on valuable perks that come with your card’s hefty annual fee.
If you’re a holder of The Platinum Card or The Business Platinum Card, it’s worthwhile to explore the app and discover which benefits you might not be fully utilizing.
