Unlocking Benefits: Eligibility for the Atmos Rewards Summit Card
The Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® Credit Card is the new premium offering from Alaska Airlines, introduced alongside updates to two existing cards. This launch coincides with the merger of Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines’ loyalty programs into the Atmos Rewards system, sparking excitement among points and miles enthusiasts.
If you’re considering applying for the Atmos Rewards Summit card, you may be curious about your eligibility, especially if you currently hold or have previously held an Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines credit card. Here’s what you need to know.
One of the most enticing aspects of applying for a new credit card is the opportunity to earn a generous welcome bonus. The Atmos Rewards Summit card offers the highest welcome bonus among the three Atmos Rewards cards: 100,000 bonus points and a 25,000-point Global Companion Award after spending $6,000 within the first 90 days of account opening.
In addition to this substantial welcome offer, cardholders enjoy a variety of benefits that enhance their travel experience. These include:
– Increased earning rates on eligible purchases.
– Access to exclusive travel perks and experiences.
– Comprehensive travel insurance and protections.
As a frequent traveler, I find the earning potential and benefits of this card to be remarkable. However, there are a few eligibility requirements to keep in mind before you apply.
If you currently hold the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Card® (now transitioned to the Atmos™ Rewards Ascent Visa Signature® Credit Card) or the Alaska Airlines Visa® Business Credit Card (now the Atmos™ Rewards Visa Signature® Business Card), you won’t be eligible to earn a welcome bonus, as these accounts have been converted.
However, if you hold the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® or the Hawaiian Airlines® Business Mastercard®, you may qualify for the Atmos Rewards Summit card.
To illustrate, TPG Managing Editor Clint Henderson successfully applied for the Atmos Rewards Summit card after his personal and business Alaska cards were converted. He also holds both personal and business versions of the Hawaiian Airlines cards, which allowed him to take advantage of the new offerings.
Since the Atmos Rewards Summit is a newly launched card, most applicants should be eligible for the welcome bonus, provided they maintain a credit score of at least 670. There are no restrictions on family members holding multiple Atmos Rewards cards or earning welcome bonuses.
If you’re considering applying for the Atmos Rewards Ascent or the Atmos Rewards Business card, you can earn the welcome bonus on both, in addition to the Summit card.
Before you rush to apply, it’s crucial to understand Bank of America’s application restrictions. The most common rule to be aware of is the 2/3/4 rule. This guideline states that you can only be approved for two new Bank of America cards within a 30-day period, three cards in a 12-month period, and four cards in a 24-month period. Note that this applies to personal cards and not to business cards issued by Bank of America.
If you’re contemplating applying for the Atmos Rewards Summit card along with other Atmos Rewards cards, consider these strategies:
1. Apply for the Atmos Rewards Summit card first to secure the lucrative welcome offer.
2. If you plan to apply for two cards shortly, consider applying for both the Atmos Rewards Summit and the Atmos Rewards Business cards to maximize your approval chances. Just remember to stay within Bank of America’s restrictions.
By holding multiple Atmos Rewards cards, you can unlock significant value. New Atmos Rewards Business cardholders can earn a welcome bonus of 80,000 bonus points and a $99 Companion Fare (plus applicable taxes and fees from $23) after spending $5,000 within the first 90 days of account opening. When paired with the Atmos Rewards Summit card, you could accumulate over 180,000 bonus points after meeting the minimum spending requirements on each card, allowing you to take full advantage of the program’s award chart.
These bonus points can be redeemed for substantial travel rewards, such as a one-way business-class ticket on Japan Airlines from Los Angeles to Tokyo for 75,000 points or on Qatar Airways from New York to Doha for 70,000 points.
Additionally, having another Atmos Rewards card enhances your points-earning potential. Cardholders earn 2 points per dollar spent at electric vehicle charging stations, gas stations, local transit (including ride-hailing services), and on shipping purchases.
Moreover, holding both cards allows you to maximize the benefits of the Atmos Rewards program, including the ability to earn elite status with Alaska Airlines and its Oneworld partners through eligible credit card spending. Atmos Rewards Business cardholders earn 1 status point for every $3 spent (up to 30,000 status points per year), while Atmos Rewards Summit cardholders earn 1 status point for every $2 spent, with no spending cap. Starting in 2026, status earnings will no longer be capped on the business card.
As a new credit card, many applicants may be eligible for the Atmos Rewards Summit and its welcome bonus, provided they have a qualifying credit score and comply with Bank of America’s application policies.
For those loyal to Oneworld or interested in earning elite status while taking advantage of a robust award chart, the Atmos Rewards Summit card can be a valuable asset in your travel toolkit.
